weekend update

Hello from China! Just a quick note before Sarah and I head out to dinner… The weekend has been a relaxing one. Friday was Book Character Day at school as well as quiz bowl day. I dressed up as Watson, to compliment my fellow Theology teacher, who dressed up like Sherlock Holmes. Pics up soon… Saturday we went to see our new apartments as well as the progress on the school. The apartment complex looks wonderful. There is a lot more landscaping at this place, with paths and waterfalls running through it. For the first time we were able to go into the school complex and see our classrooms! There’s still a lot of work left, but we’re anticipating a finish date of about 45 days from now. Pics of all that to come soon as well! Sunday is a good rest day. I miss football. Oh, and congrats to the White Sox…

coming out from under the weather…

I’ve been sick… Before you feel too sorry for me, I’m doing much better today. :-) My tummy is grumbling due to the lack of food, but otherwise, it’s okay. I’m getting excited about the Christmas productions. Now it’s nice to have my time free, because I’m able to help out a lot. The younger kids are doing a musical entitled, "Harold the King" - it’s a "Patch the Pirate" production, if you’re familiar with that. It should be a lot of fun, and the kids are already loving the music! Lots of work ahead of us!!

Update

Here’s a couple of updates to what I talked about in the past entry: - Sarah and I went to the PSB office to take care of Visa stuff, expecting to answer questions and all… no such thing. The lady looked at our passports, looked at us, and said we were fine. No problem. - Sarah’s still recovering, but is doing better than before. There’s a bit of flu going around, apparently. In other news: - we aren’t going to Thailand for Thanksgiving. There were some financial issues, and it won’t work out. Sarah and I are thinking about flying to Hong Kong for the break, but we aren’t sure yet. - our new school is coming along great! We will be going to check out the site on Saturday, as well as to see the apartment complex we will be moving to. While we originally thought that we would be moving in July, now it’s looking like we will be moving anytime between January or July. (Fine by me - the commute would be a hike every day!) Hopefully we’ll get some pics up soon. - I switched programs that I do the web pics with; Album 1 is now in a different format, and 3 and soon-to-be 4 will be with the new program as well. We can put comments on the pages, which I like. Let me know what you think! “Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.” - James M. Barrie

busy times

Long time no write. Sorry y’all. Last Friday Sarah and I went to hear William Lane Craig speak at Sichuan University. I had read some of his work at Cedarville, and quoted him in my senior research paper, so it was good to hear him in person. Saturday we headed to the bulk market to pick up a costume for the up-coming "book character day" as well as other odds and ends. There are hundreds, if not over a thousand, small vendors in this area. We got lost. It was fun. Back to school on Monday - Sarah’s feeling a little under the weather now. We have an interview with the powers that be to get our residence permit now that our visa has run out - nothing to worry about, but it’s still on my mind. Think about it with Dad if you have a chance.

A new panda

While surfing the infomation superhighway, I discovered that the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. has a new baby panda, which has recently been named. I found it interesting because the panda has the same last name as our Chinese name - "tai." (If you think I’ve had a sudden bout of dyslexia, rest easy - in China, the last name is always said first. It is not known as the last name; it is your "honorable surname.") Indian food…

Today after morning fellowship, Sarah and I went with some friends for some Indian food. It was tasty. Especially the garlic naan. I like naan. I like the taste. I like the word. It’s a good thing all around. This week is going to be a busy one…

new computer

This entry is the first to be written from our new computer! The boxes showed up from dell yesterday, and after some finagling with the internet connection, everything seems to be working fine. Sarah and I went bowling today - only the second time since we started dating (both of which were in China…) - it was fun. It was part of an activity with families from school. The first game went well for me - I had 3 strikes and 3 spares! Sarah did alright too. We won’t talk about the 2nd game. ;-) Played "Shanghai" (a card game) and watched Batman Begins tonight. Very good movie - even on it’s third time. (OK, Sarah would tell you I fell asleep. It’s still a good movie.)

pizza!

The new Peter’s, a local Western restaurant with great food, has a special going on: 2 pizzas for the price of one on Thursdays. Sarah and I took advantage of this last night, and it was very tasty! 2 pizzas, leaving more than enough for lunch today, and all for 6 US dollars. It’s wonderful. :-) In other news, we are expecting a new computer today! We ordered a desktop from Dell China, and it should be getting to the apartment anytime. OK, time to get ready for class. The quarter ends today, so grades need to be calculated…
