we’re under attack!

We managed to sleep last night (amazingly enough!) in spite of the bombs and mortars going off all around us!  Today is the lunar New Year, so last night was REALLY LOUD!!!!!  We went up on the roof and were literally surrounded by fireworks!  Incredible!!  They apparently are a lot cheaper here than in the States - it seemed as though all the street vendors gave up selling what they usually sell and set up fireworks stands all down the road.  These aren’t your little sparklers and pinwheels, though - they looked like rockets!  The road to school this morning was littered with ash and red paper.  Apparently, the festivities don’t end with last night.  The firecrackers have already started up again this morning (8:30am) and will continue for another week or two.  So glad we’re going to Malaysia!!
We are successfully moved - piano and all - and almost completely unpacked!  It’s so nice to be close to school, but it is definitely out of the city!!  Dan and I went back to our old place yesterday to pick up a couple of things that got left behind, and the bus system definitely ate up our day!  It was all worth it, though, to have "one last meal" at Peter’s!  :-D

We’re moving!

This is the last post I’m writing from our first apartment - in the next 36 hours we will finish packing up our things and be moving on to our new place on the west side of Chengdu! This has been a good apartment for us, very comfortable and easy to settle in to… but we’re excited about getting to our new apartment and settling in there as well. We’ll have to hold off on the getting comfortable until we get back from Malaysia (we leave in 9 days!), but we have lots of time to get comfortable there. Expect a new post from our new apartment when we get Internet up and running, and lots of pictures from our trip!

Long time no chat…

…sorry. Things have been busy, as you can imagine. Here are some highlights from the past 10 days or so:
- We moved into our new school! It’s been exciting to see the culmination of our preparation and God’s faithfulness as we settle into our new building. Last week we had some issues, dealing at different times with no water, no gas, no power… (apparently us International types like to waste energy on that wasteful thing called heat) but we are working through the issues and things are settling into place. Sarah has begun teaching 2 music classes, and I’ve got to play around with the sound and light stuff in the auditorium.
- We’re moving! An apartment has been found on the side of the city that our new school is on, and hopefully within the next few weeks we will be able to relocate to our new abode. It is a 6th and 7th floor apartment, with place for a garden on the roof. We’re excited, and trying to figure out where we should put things…
- We’re going to Malaysia! We have 2 weeks off for Chinese New Year at the beginning of February, so 5 couples here have opted to take off for Malaysia for most of the time. We are tentatively planning on seeing Singapore for a day as well… we leave on February 1 and return February 11. We’re excited!
These are the big things going on… we hope all is well with you!

Ready to go! (almost)

This past week we have been frantically cleaning and preparing our new school building for yesterday - the day of the open house for students and parents. Although there are still things to be done (when Sarah and I left on Friday the Upper School didn’t have desks), we are looking forward to Monday and getting back into classes.
I (Dan) have been able to get into the auditorium and figure out the new sound, light, and projection systems in the room - complete with 2 fog machines and a bubble machine! It’s fun to play with, and the kids should find it to be pretty neat too!
Our new scooter is holding up well - it can be a little cold travelling on it to school and back home, but it is very convenient to get from place to place! Pics of the scooter and our new facility will hopefully be up in the next week.
