finals week!

The end is coming…
It’s Monday of finals week.  Tuesday through Thursday are finals, and Friday is graduation!  The year has gone by quick… We are looking forward to going home next Sunday!
Gotta review with one of my classes…

almost there…

The Spring Concert is tonight.  I’m excited, a little nervous, but ready to go!  It’s amazing to think that we have already experienced an entire school year in Chengdu…  I’ve been realizing how blessed we are to be at this place with such amazing students.  Day in, day out, they are typical teenagers, but every so often, they say or do something that reminds me that we would be hard-pressed to find such students in the States.  A few students have shared in chapel the last two weeks - little things, what they’ve learned, how they have changed this year.  Some were so insightful and so aware of how they can bring glory to the Lord with their lives.  What a privilege to teach them…

Lazy, hazy days…

The sky is brown today.  It smells like the Central Valley when the rice fields are burning.  The haze goes all the way down to the street alongside our apartment.  Friday is supposed to be a clear(er) day; perfect timing for our all-school Field Day!  Parents are joining us for a fun time of games and sportsmanship.
We have some visitors this week!  Two guys from Cedarville are putting together a promo video for our school system.  They have one more stop after Chengdu, then will spend some time in Beijing before heading home.  One of them grew up in Dan’s hometown! It was fun to hang out and chat last night.  Cindy Fox is also here - she is responsible for most of the recent hires, as she travels to universities and convinces them to send new teachers to China。  She herself taught with our company for several years before resettling in the States.  We also welcomed a representative from Intel yesterday.  Hopefully, she was impressed and we’ll gain a few more students as the families move into the area.
It will be a crazy two weeks, and then we’re done!

moving on…

I’m currently working on changing my hosting plan to a new provider - so if there is a problem in the next few weeks with seeing stuff on the site, that’s why.  We are hoping for even better things with the new host, including losing the banners at the top of the site…
It is beautiful in Chengdu right now - 80 degrees, sunny, we can see the clouds…

home again, home again…

It’s so strange to be in the place that has always been home and yet feel homesick…  I guess that’s what happens when your husband doesn’t travel with you.  Call us crazy, but in a month, we’re getting back on a plane and travelling 14 hours from Chengdu to Los Angeles.  We’re looking forward to spending a few days with the Thengvall clan before heading back to Vestal for a wedding (Justin & Karin), an anniversary (ours!) and a birthday (Dan’s!).
I’d better get going… I have a Chinese lesson this morning, jet lagged and all - wish me luck!  :-D

Lazy Sunday

Catching up on email and stuff - 2 important things to note:
- Sarah’s back!  She returned home safe late Friday night (more appropriately, Saturday morning.)  She is tired but in good spirits.
- We are both going home!  We will be spending our 3 week June break in the states: a couple of days in the LA area and the balance of the trip in New York.  We hope to see many people while we are there!
Other than that, not much to report.  I spoke in fellowship this morning.  This past week has been a break, though the AP students had their tests and had to come in.  We have 4 weeks left of classes, and then are done - students (and teachers) are counting down the days…

rainy day…

After days and days of gorgeous weather reaching the high 80’s, there was a refreshing spring rain that fell this afternoon.  It was much needed, especially for our Christmas tree sitting on our rooftop and waiting to be used again.
Sarah returns to China Friday night - keep her in your thoughts as she travels, if you would.
